Berlin, March 2021. The ActiveEnergy solution, is a combination of hardware and software. The hardware, the AE PowerStation uses voltage optimization to adapt the voltage level in buildings. Together with machine-learning and high-resolution data monitoring, it is not only possible to safe energy and CO2. EnergyLabs enables buildings do respond to a changing environment. Let’s turn them into active protectors of the environment.

How does the AE PowerStation work?

Electrical power is supplied to us be electricity supply companies and grid operators. According to the IEC 60038 standards, electricity utilities and grid operators must supply voltage levels of 230V ± 10%. They are supposed to supply 230V.

The electrical power supplied to you by grid operators is supposed to be 230 V. However, they cannot guarantee a constant voltage level. As it fluctuates, all electronic devices, by law, have to work within a voltage range of plus and minus 10% of 230 V (207 V – 253 V).

The ActiveEnergy solution lowers the voltage in buildings to the minimum level required. EnergyLabs uses voltage optimization based on continuous high-resolution data monitoring. When doing so, ActiveEnergy ensures, that it never goes below the 207 V threshold. Accordingly, even at the highest saving level, all electrical devices still work within their specifications. EnergyLabs considers every volt above 207 V more than necessary.

EnergyLabs regulates the current on a building level. This is something grid operators don’t do. We regulate voltage for your building so that you don’t consume more power than you have to.

Voltage Optimization is voltage reduction

What is the technology behind it?

Using our artificial intelligence, along with other electrical components such as transformers, the AE PowerStation continuously analyses the input voltage at a high frequency. The output voltage is then optimized accordingly, keeping the building’s voltages at levels with minimal power consumption. This can be done without any risk, and also without any loss of comfort. All electronic devices still work immaculately.

The AE PowerStation uses the principle of “reverse-induction”. Using this technology ensures minimum losses during the voltage reduction process.

Where is the AE PowerStation installed?

The final node of the electrical grid network is a step-down transformer. It delivers electrical power to individual buildings. Generally speaking, the voltage entering a building’s main supply line depends on the following factors:

network supply voltage and load, time of the day, and building’s distance from the transformer.

Thus, as mentioned earlier, the voltage level in buildings fluctuates throughout the day. But it always remains within the supply voltage levels of 230V ± 10% (standard IEC 60 038).

voltage optimization in every building along the street can save energy

The step-down transformer’s output, which is the building’s input, is connected to the power distribution board of the building. Connected to it you can find power meter(s) to measure the power consumption.

Continuously analyzing the input voltage at a high frequency, the AE PowerStation adjusts the output voltage supplied to the building. It keeps the voltages at a lower level than input, reducing the power consumption while doing so. Integrated circuit breakers and bypass modes ensure that all safety standards are met.

As shown in the following diagram, the AE PowerStation is installed at the location of the main power supply unit. More precisely, it is installed between the power meter and the power distribution board of the building.
